There is nothing more fascinating to read about than psychology. How humans interact and why is worth a life time of study. Today I’m going to give a little review of The Art Of People by Dave Kerpen. Dave details 11 simple people skills that will get you everything you want. Or so he says. Now to my thoughts…
A brief list of the basic 11 principles covered are the following:
- Understanding Yourself and Understanding People
- Meeting the Right People
- Reading People
- Connecting With People
- Influencing People
- Changing People’s Mind
- Teaching People
- Leading People
- Resolving Conflict with People
- Inspiring People
- Keeping People Happy
The good part about the book is he doesn’t promote lie, cheat, and steal to get what you want. Unlike the highly controversial 48 Laws of Power. The author highlights a different way to get what you want without harming.
Points like understanding people even if you do not like them and being interested rather than interesting.
Using real life examples and situations you are able to take the advice and apply it to your own life.
Most importantly he reminds us to “Do unto other as they would want done to them”. An important twist.
My Thoughts on The Art Of People
I really enjoyed many parts of this book. The section on how to help people come up with your idea is practically my life story lol. I learned this one through experience. If you give up the credit and make people feel it’s there great idea they are more likely to do it and feel good about it. Sure, it does suck when they go on and on about their wonderful bright idea and you know better, but that’s just your pride talking. 😉
