Today’s post is going to help a lot of people with PCOS. I’m sharing my Magic Daily Hormonal Acne Mask. This mask is perfect for those suffering from PCOS and female hormonal acne. Unlike acne products you find at stores, this homemade mask doesn’t dry you out or cause more acne. It’s still perfect for any cause of acne.
KAT’S MAGIC DAILY HORMONAL ACNE MASK
- Potatoe Juice (I buy a bag of small organic potatoes and use one a day)
- Organic Whole Milk Yogurt
- Organic Honey
Why it works
The potato juice is great for treating blemishes, reducing inflammation, lightening of skin (such as scars), it’s also great for puffiness and dark circles under your eyes. Yogurt has natural antibacterial and antifungal properties as well as lactic acid to smooth and tighten skin. Cinnamon can dry out pimples and plump the skin by bringing oxygen and blood to the surface and unclog and open pores by removing excess oil from the skin’s surface. Turmeric is effective in the treatment of acne due to its antiseptic and antibacterial properties that fight pimples and breakouts to provide a youthful glow to your skin. Honey is antibacterial as well as moisturizing to the skin. Honey is loaded with minerals, vitamins, antioxidants, and natural enzymes that will nourish your skin from the outside in. Honey also attracts and retains moisture and is a powerful wound healer for any acne scars. Nutmeg contains antiviral and antibacterial elements that decrease the likelihood of infections, clogged pores, and oil control. It is also a natural astringent and known to heal and fade scars.
How to Make The Hormonal Acne Mask
- First, grate one small potato into a small bowl. Squeeze grated potato into another small bowl.
- Add about 1 tbs yogurt
- Add 2 tbs cinnamon
- Add 1 tbs turmeric
- Add 2 tbs honey
- Add 2 tbs ground nutmeg
The mixture may be a little runny, so please wear an old shirt or something not important. (Tip: the only thing that gets out Turmeric stains is the SUN) I use cotton pads to soak up the mixture and help spread it on my face. Then I soak a few cotton pads and lay down with them over areas that need the most attention. Try to keep it on for at least 20 minutes. The longer the better, but even if you only have a few minutes it’s very important not to skip a day. On days when I’m in a rush, I’ll leave it on for 5-10 minutes. To make things faster I filled an empty spice jar with all the dry ingredients, so I just sprinkle them on quickly. If you have no time, I scoop out some honey and shake in the spice mix for a fast 3-minute mask. Honey and cinnamon as great as a face wash, just be careful around the eyes.
How Long Before You Will See Results from the Hormonal Acne Mask
With daily use, expect to see results after 3 to 4 weeks. My hormonal cysts actually cleared completely after a few days. However, they did return when I stopped for 2-3 days.
The before and after photo dates are first June 13, 2017, second image June 30th, 2017, and last bottom image was July 5, 2017. I tried my best to keep the lighting as similar as possible. I do think the mask actually lightens up your skin a bit as well as the scars. It’s not perfect, but you can see it actually does get better with longer use. Sadly, this must be used daily to maintain results.
Some similar recipes add lemon juice. I tried this in my first attempt, but that gave me a terrible burn. The largest mark you see was actually a not-so-healed small scab that was burned by the lemon and made huge and angry. Because of this experience, I’m not comfortable including lemon in any recipes. The cinnamon does cause some redness and inflammation, but you can see a real difference once that subsides. I find cinnamon and honey are the most important ingredients in this recipes and the others are a great support for lightening scars and bringing down inflammation.
Can You Store The Mask?
Yes! You can make the mask ahead of time and store it in the fridge. Be sure to use it for up before 3 days. However, you will get the best results if you make it fresh. To freshen up the mask try adding more honey + cinnamon when you apply.
Work From The Inside Out
While you are using this topically, you should be putting everything you can into trying different natural remedies, supplements, diets changes, and lifestyle tips to control your hormones. Failure to do so can lead to chronic pain, cancers, and a host of other symptoms. Ever since I found out about my PCOS, I’ve been on a quest to deal with it naturally (update on my current PCOS treatment protocol coming up!). So take your skin as a huge sign things need to be handled inside your body. No symptom cover ups like antibiotics and birth control pills. It’s a slow process, but worth it.
Could You Need a Parasite Cleanse?
Another probable cause for acne even if you do or do not have hormonal imbalance is parasites. Let’s be very clear that it’s nearly impossible to not be exposed to them. They can be the reason behind many symptoms that can appear to be any number of issues. That’s why it’s very important to do bi-yearly parasites cleanses. Being human is enough to have them, so keeping them under control is so important. Look out for my post on parasites and how to treat them soon.
Add a Chemical Peel For Increased Benefits
I’m also a licensed facialist. So in addition to this mask, I like to use a Mandelic Acid Peel of 40% every 4 days. It’s great for lightening scars. I’m not sure why this particular acid is so hard to find, but it deserves to be more popular. You will peel very minimally, it doesn’t hurt as much as other peels (just some burning when you rinse it off). It’s a great peel for those of us who can’t walk around looking crazy while our skin heels. Peels do not treat acne, they simply peel the outer layer of the skin. So do not think that by getting a peel you will have a long period of clear skin. This is why I don’t bother with really deep peels that visibly peel you. It’s a lot of pain, takes away from your life while you’re hiding from the sun and others, and it’s all going to come back after all that effort. Just be safe and start with one or two layers at a time. You may increase slowly as your skin tolerates it more. I’m up to 7 layers and 8 minutes with no problems. Everyone’s skin is different. You may only be able to tolerate 1 layer for 2 minutes. That’s fine.
