Whether you’re a fellow blogger, online business, owner, or simply found a job you have the pleasure of being able to work remotely… This is the topic for you! I’m going to share with you everything you need to work from home. Some of these are from learning the hard way. And I’m not getting into the obvious, either.
No need to go over, computer/laptop, a quiet place, internet connection, etc. Let’s get into the stuff most people forget.
So let’s begin.
Everything You Need To Work From Home or Remotely
To Toss The Clutter
Sure it may look ADORABLE on Pinterest, but your workspace is precious. Does it really need to be taken up by a fancy paperweight? You hardly use loose paper and if your desk is that windy, maybe close the window. When was the last time you used a Kate Spade paperclip? There was a time staplers were kept in drawers, but now they are accessories. Do you really need one? Spend more time dusting it than using it? Shouldn’t you put it away somewhere then? What about that huge fancy lamp or task light? Does it take up way more space than a still nice, but less huge lamp would do?
I’m no one to talk, I’m guilty. Target has so many cute notebooks and sticky notes, it’s hard to resist.
Let’s be real about those huge agendas. I bought some, they are so nice. Only problem is they are so packed with pages it can be hard to turn them, and forget taking them on the move. In the end I switched to a pocket one.
Now for to-do lists. Those are made the night before on a fancy Target notepad. I can put that little page in my pocket and travel with it. Or I’ll just email myself my list. Then it’s always in my phone. BAM! To be sure I won’t check and forget I also use Boomerang an extension for gmail. That brings that email right back to my inbox over and over until it’s done. Now I could say use your phone, or use your calendar, but those have failed on me too many times to count. Email feels safest, because even if I lose my phone I can access everything. My husband uses his iPhone with reminders and calendar, but is constantly having his information wiped and scrambling to figure out his appointments.
The Comfiest Chair
If you’re going to spend this much time sitting, I suggest you get a chair that won’t leave you in need of a deep tissue massage. While you’re at it you’ll be spending a LOT of time on this chair, so find something you can clean easily.
Now I went a step further and got a chair that is easy to nap in. It’s very cozy and since it has an upholstered dome back, it blocks some sound when I sit back. If you’re curious it’s this one from Restoration Hardware. I got it in the velvet since I was told it’s the easiest to clean. So far they were correct!
OK I’m a little eccentric, but you may use any chair as long as it’s very comfortable for you. I’m just big on getting a great bed and chair. I divide most of my life between the two. 😉
Everything to Make Your Favorite Caffeinated Beverage
I was obsessed with making lattes for years before I finally quit. For more on that check this out. But my husband is crazy into coffee no matter what. He has a coffee grinder, French press, electric water kettle, and his favorite mug. I’m into Matcha Almond Milk Lattes, so I need a whole different set of tools. Either way we make sure we have everything we need. Because having it at home means not going out to get it. You’ll save both money and time. If it just doesn’t taste as good as in the local coffee house, you’re going to get sick and tired and run out to treat yourself. YouTube latte art if that’s what makes you happy.
It’s very zen to make it yourself. I enjoy the steps and the art of it. If you could care less, automatic coffee makers work just fine. Find one of those fancy #GetShitDone inspirational mugs and be happy.
A Keyboard Protector
So you’re going to be drinking that caffeinated beverage by your computer, right? Liquid and electronics DO NOT MIX. Let’s avoid a big headache and head on over here or here and get one to save your sanity. You may think you’re the most careful person in the world, but one fine day….OOPS!
Something To Listen To
Forget music, this is work time. Work time is about learning and expanding your mind. Here’s a list of some epic awesome podcasts you NEED to get into, yesterday. If you need to be quiet, then you’ll also need these. Headphones should be comfortable too! I hate those little bud things. The big ones with the ear padding are where it’s at.
