I love podcasts. This year I took on a few more awesome ones. Here are the best podcasts for bloggers and entrepreneurs and just some fun ones thrown in because you need some fun.
THE TIM FERRISS SHOW
Most days, The Tim Ferriss Show is the #1 business podcast on all of iTunes, and it’s been ranked #1 (of all podcasts) on many occasions. It was also selected as iTunes’ “Best of 2014” and “Best of 2015.” In the last few months, downloads have shot past 45,000,000 downloads.
Each episode, Tim deconstructs world-class performers from eclectic areas (investing, sports, business, art, etc.) to extract the tactics and tools you can use.
Prior guests include Arnold Schwarzenegger, Ed Catmull (President of Pixar), Jamie Foxx, Tony Robbins, Peter Thiel, Rick Rubin (legendary music producer), Reid Hoffman (LinkedIn), Jon Favreau (Director/writer), Mike Shinoda (Linkin Park), Neil Strauss (7x NYT bestselling author), and dozens more.
Why I love it? I don’t listen to most of the sports-related ones, but when he has someone influential in business and people skills I really love the interaction. Tim digs deep to get the most out of guests with thoughtful questions. He makes everyone comfortable enough to realize and spill important secrets to life, love, and business. Really, it’s all kinds of beautiful. If you just want to learn and hear about how successful people have overcome hardships and excelled you are in for a real treat.
My favorite ones are with Arnold Schwarzenegger, Jamie Fox, Tony Robbins, Derek Sivers, Ramit Sethi, and I’m sure I miss so many other classic episodes. If you listen to one podcast, this should be it!
THE JOE ROGAN EXPERIENCE
The Joe Rogan Experience podcast is HILARIOUS. It doesn’t seem like something that I would enjoy. And yet, there I am, every day. Laughing, screaming at the absurdity, and learning something too. I do warn, it’s explicit language and content, most days. But boy is it fun. My favorite episodes are: 1016 Whitney Cummings | 994 Dom D’Agostino | any with Joey Diaz lol
THE ART OF CHARM
The Art of Charm podcast is another true winner. It’s geared towards men and teaching them skills on dating, love, work, etc. Basically life skills with awesome advice and insightful guests. I get so much out of it that I ignore the fact it’s focused on men. Just anyone and everyone can benefit.
This podcast is also great if you’re single, dating, in a relationship, or have to deal in any way with other humans….so yeah pretty much all of us. He also interviews successful entrepreneurs and therapists. Everything from how to deliver a kill speech to talking to strangers at parties. Your classic life skills, people!
My favorite episode is 462 Chris Donaghue, but I also enjoy the short Friday Q and A episodes with listener questions.
TRIBE OF MENTORS
The Tribe Of Mentors podcast is another great podcast by Tim Ferriss. This is a mini-series Tim did after his book release of the same name, Tribe Of Mentors was released. It’s a short form podcast compared to his main, The Tim Ferris Show.
This podcast has a lot more stories. It’s entertaining with none of that GET TO THE POINT interview questions. I prefer interview questions and more guiding of the guest rather than letting them go out. But you get better stories this way. Even those the other format is much longer, these feel longer.
THE JAMES ALTUCHER SHOW
I love his philosophy on how the education system, specifically higher education, is outdated. That’s because I 100% agree. Nothing I learned in college was in any way useful. No, the university wasn’t bad, ALL universities run the same way. It’s way too much filler and so little of the useful stuff. That being said, I don’t agree with everything James believes or says. I find him and his guests interesting and gain a lot of benefit from their stories and ideas.
The Skinny Confidential Him & Her Podcast
A new one I started to follow. Fun and quirky personality, Lauryn Evarts of The Skinny Confidential has a great time podcasting with her husband. They are some great guests. While I don’t take all their advice to heart, or their experts, it’s a fun time.
Found My Fitness – by Rhonda Patrick, Ph.D.
Deep scientific discussions on diet. What has been clinically shown to work, the processes behind it, and very heavy medically backed dialogue. I love that opinions are rare and all you hear is the facts. Such an interesting and needed podcast. It can be a bit heavy and there is a learning curve before you understand all the terminology. Expect to pause and Google a lot at first. Worth the extra effort to fully understand important and even life-changing findings.
INVISIBILIA BY NPR
Invisibilia (Latin for all the invisible things) is about the invisible forces that control human behavior – ideas, beliefs, assumptions, and emotions. Co-hosted by Lulu Miller and Alix Spiegel, Invisibilia interweaves narrative storytelling with scientific research that will ultimately make you see your own life differently.
This one totally sounds like NPR, it’s just a beautiful podcast and completely thought-provoking. You’ll quickly listen to the entire season of episodes. Don’t say I didn’t warn you.
How I Built This with Guy Raz
This one is an obvious winner. If you know anything about TED TALKS you already love this podcast. It’s a fun story of how someone went from nothing to big business success. You hear all the trials and setbacks that are so important. It reminds you that no matter how hard it is, everyone goes through the hard stuff to get to the good.
